Welcome to Personal Fitness

Monday - Syllabus, class procedures. Tour of facilities that will be used. Students will take their height, weight pre-assessment measures.

Tuesday - Students will take the written part of their common assessment. Students will develop their daily warm-ups then students will complete their pre-assessment data, sit-n-reach, push-ups, and sit-ups.

Wednesday - Students will complete their Exercise Contracts. After contracts students will run their 1 mile as their pre-assessment.

Thursday - Students will complete vocabulary for chapter 1 and will start notes for chapter 1 and 2. Students will continue their pre-assessment data. Students will participate in a workout.

Friday - Students will finish chapter one notes then complete the pre-assessment for the pacer running test.

Note: Start looking at items needed for the portfolio. You are responsible for completing a portfolio at the end of the semester that includes all of your assessments measures and worksheets that you will complete throughout this class. I will tell you all every item that you need to keep and include in your portfolio.

Health Projects

Ø  Select a topic from the Glencoe Health book. The topic can be anything that interests your group from the book. If you choose a topic that is not from the book it must be approved prior to your research.  Groups may select a topic that has or has not been covered in class. Your group will create a 4 page paper on your topic AND a 5-10 presentation covering the topic.

o   Paper – MLA format

§  Title page

·       Topic

·       Group members

·       Class, date

§  4 pages of information on topic

·       Define your topic

·       Explain why your topic is important to your community

·       Explain the health risks, benefits, or practices associated with your topic

·       How can someone get help or get involved with your topic

·       The 3 or 4 lessons from your book usually makes a great outline

§  Reference page

§  Therefore; there will be 6 pages in all

§  Double spaced

§  Grading:

·       4 Page Requirement                                                      10 pts  

·       Content Knowledge                                                       25 pts

·       MLA format (12 font, Times New Roman, double spaced, typed, title page, reference page, submitted electronically                10  pts

o   Presentation (should outline paper)                    

§  Examples: PowerPoint, poster, Prezi, video, etc. (Anything method that you choose as long as it outlines your paper

§  Grading

·       5-10 minutes                                                                 10 pts

·       Content knowledge (Eye contact, voice and diction) 25 pts

·       Creativity, organization, neatness, uniqueness, eye appeal, visual aids                                                                                       20 pts

Ø  This is a major project. There will be no make-up assignment for this project.

Ø  Remember a plagiarism report will be completed on your assignment. DO NOT copy information without giving credit to the author. If your assignment has copied material without the proper citation you will be given an F for this assignment.

Ø  Plagiarism – a piece of writing that has been copied from someone else and is presented as being your own work; the act of plagiarizing; taking someone’s words or ideas as if they were your own.

Ø  Submitting your assignment

§  You will upload your document to the Google Classroom for your block or you may email your paper to me, as long as it is typed in Microsoft Word! Due date is on the board. You have two weeks to complete this. Keep in mind this is an outside of class assignment, meaning it should be completed on your own time; therefore, any class time that you have to work on it is a privilege and can be taken away if you are not working.

Week of 8/27/18 - 8/31/18 ADAP


Monday students will follow along in their ADAP books while listening to the lecture. Students will be told what to highlight to help them study for the exam to receive their certificate. Students will be given a worksheet following the lecture. The worksheet will review the lecture.  

Tuesday students will follow along in their ADAP books while listening to the lecture covering chapter 2. Students will be told what to highlight to help them study for the exam to receive their certificate. Students will be given a worksheet following the lecture. The worksheet will review the lecture. 

Wednesday students will follow along in their ADAP books while listening to the lecture covering chapter 3 and 4. Students will be told what to highlight to help them study for the exam to receive their certificate. Students will be given a worksheet following the lecture. The worksheet will review the lecture.

Thursday students will take their assessment covering ADAP. If students do not make a 70 or better, they will be told what to review and given one more chance to pass the assessment. All students who pass the assessment will be given their certificate of completion to take for their drivers licenses.

Week of 8/20/18 - 8/24/18: Reproduction and Endocrine System

Monday - Student will complete group activities, positive mental health campaign that they started last week.

Tuesday - Students will complete chapter 5 assessment. After assessment students will complete chapter 16 and 17 vocabulary.

Wednesday - Students will complete vocabulary for chapter 16 and 17. The next unit will be Reproduction. Students will be given handouts of the reproduction system to label then students and the teacher will cover chapter16 lessons 1 and 2. As the teacher covers the lesson students will be able to check their labeling and make corrections.

Thursday- The teacher and students will complete the notes of chapter 16 using PowerPoint and open discussion. Students will start their group assignment, which is to develop a learning pamphlet for middle school students using visuals and facts about the reproduction system.

Friday - Students will review chapter 16 and lesson 1 of chapter 17 to get ready for their test. Students will watch "The Miracle of Life" video. Follow the video students will have their 2nd writing prompt.

Week 8/13/18 - 8/17/18: Mental and Emotional Health

Monday - Students will complete chapter 1 and 2 assessment. Following assessment they will start vocabulary for chapter 5 Mental and Emotional Health

Tuesday - The teachers will cover chapter 5 lesson 1 and 2 using PowerPoint and open discussion. Students will complete a Cooperative Learning assignment. This will be group work.

Wednesday - Teacher and students will complete chapter 5 lesson 3 using PowerPoint and open discussion. Students will watch short videos describing different mental disabilities. Students will develop Anti-Suicide material. They will make a flyer, brochure, or poster that delivers a positive message and provide accurate information for students who may be thinking about suicide.

Thursday - The class will complete chapter 5 notes using PowerPoint and open discussion. Students will start their Eye on the Media assignment. Students will develop a brochure, billboard, a newspaper add, and a slogan encouraging people to see help for mental and emotional problems. The will be a group assignment that will take two days to complete.

Friday - Students will complete their Eye on the Media assignment. Students will watch short film covering Mental and Emotional Health. Students will have a writing assignment once the film is over.

Wednesday - Students will work on State Laws Romeo and Juliet. Students completed discussion questions concerning the law. 

Thursday - Students will complete chapter 1 and 2 notes. Students will use the decision making process to make 2 decisions that they have to make in their near future.

Friday - Students will watch educational video Gracie's Choice. Students have discussion questions covering the video that they will have to submit for grading. Questions will cover the decision making process.

Thursday - Health rules, expectations, and syllabus.

Friday - Check schedules, rules, expectations, material needed, syllabus.

Monday - Students will take pre-assessment for health. Teacher and students will complete chapter 1 and 5 vocabulary. Students will start discussion on chapter 1 covering what is health.

Tuesday - Teacher and students will continue working on chapter 1 lesson 2 notes.

Wednesday - Teacher and students will complete chapter 1 notes.
