Monday - Students will work on portfolios, which are due tomorrow. Students can find worksheets for portfolio on the page labeled "Worksheets". Students can also find all 3 writing prompts.


Tuesday - Students will turn in portfolios. DO NOT TURN IN SOMEONE ELSE WORK AS YOUR OWN!


Wednesday - Notebook #3 will be turned in. Notebook #3 is vocabulary from chapters 2 and 5. 50 points each.

Week of 11/16/15 - 11/20/15

Monday - Students developed short in-class projects covering different sections from chapter 4, Nutrition and your Personal Fitness. Each group developed a mini lesson and a game to review their lesson. Students will start presenting their information. Students will participate in a student led workout for the second half of class. Workout will include warm-up, workout, and cool-down led by peers.


Tuesday - Students will work on final exam study guide. Students will take Personal Fitness SLO on December 8, 2015.

Week of 11/9/15 - 11/13/15

Monday - Students will complete chapter 4 vocabulary. Students will participate in a student led workout the 2nd half of class. Workouts will consist of a warm-up, workout, and cool-down.


Tuesday - Students will take chapter 3 test. Students will participate in a student led workout the 2nd half of class. Workouts will consist of a warm-up, workout, and cool-down.


Wednesday - Students  will  be given a section  from chapter 4, which  they will present to the class as a small group. Students will use this class block to develop a presentation using the board, poster paper, notes cards, or anything else that they would like to use. Following presentations students will participate in a workout led by a peer. The workout will include a warm-up, workout, and cool-down.


Thursday - Students will present their presentations to the class. Students will complete an outline of the chapter as their peers present. Following presentations students will participate in a workout led by a peer. The workout will include a warm-up, workout, and cool-down.

Week of 11/2/15 - 11/6/15


Monday - Students will start chapter 3 using guided notes, PowerPoint and open discussion. Once students complete lesson 1, they will go complete a workout on the track. Students will run around the stadium and up the stairs. Students will then complete an ab workout, and end with stretching.

Tuesday - Students will work through chapter 3 lesson 2. Students will use information given to them to compare their pre-assessments measurements to standards. They will write how they will make progress to their fitness levels by changing their FITT. Students will participate in a workout for the 2nd half of class. The workout will be on the field. Students will do push-ups, sit-ups, lounges, squats, and sprints. They will participate in an ab workout then end with stretching.

Wednesday - Students will complete chapter 3 lesson 3 using PowerPoint, guided notes, and open discussion. Students will participate in a class workout for the 2nd half of class. The workout will consist of students running a mile. The mile will be untimed. It will prepare them for their final mile of the class.

Thursday - Students will finish chapter 3. Students will complete the diet part of their personal fitness program that they are developing. They will participate in a workout the 2nd half of class. The workout will consist of students running hills outside of the health classroom. Students will do an ab workout after the hill and end with stretching.

Friday - Students will start their active challenge for their school. The 2nd half of class they will participate in a cardio workout. The cardio workout will be students running around the track.

Monday - Students and teacher will complete chapter 1 notes and start their school's health campaign assignment. Students will start their student workout projects today. Student pairs will lead their peer in an exercise.



Tuesday - Students will complete the health campaign assignment. Students will complete a workout developed by their peers for the 2nd half of class.



Wednesday - Students will take chapter 1 test. Students will complete a workout lead by the instructor the 2nd half of class.



Thursday - Students will start chapter 3 lesson 1 notes. Students will start working on their workout projects. They will develop a workout that they will lead the class through.



Friday - Students will complete week 3 of their progress tracker worksheet. Students will complete a workout lead by their peers.

Tuesday - Students and teacher will work through PowerPoint using opening discussion for chapter 1 lesson 2 notes. Students will complete a workout lead by the instructor during the 2nd half of class.



Wednesday - Students will work through chapter 1 lesson 3. Students and teacher will start discussing their student workout projects today. Students will complete a workout lead by the instructor.



Thursday - Students will complete notes for chapter 1. Students will start their school's health campaign assignment. Students will complete a workout lead by the instructor for the 2nd half of class.

Monday - Pre-assessments: Students will take the written part of their common assessment. Following Pre-assessment students will take their height, weight, and sit-n-reach measures as their pre-assessment measures.
Tuesday - Students will develop their daily warm-ups then students will run their 1st mile for their pre-assessment data

Wednesday -  Students will complete their Exercise Contracts. After contracts students will complete push-ups and sit-ups which will give them their pre-assessment data for Personal Fitness

Thursday - Students will complete vocabulary for chapter 1 and will start notes for chapter 1. Students will continue their pre-assessment data. They will finish ht, wt, push-ups, sit-ups, and sit-n-reach.
Friday - Students will start chapter one notes then complete the pre-assessment for the pacer running test

Final Week of Health


Monday - Students will start chapter 27 CPR and First aid.


Tuesday - Students will continue their lesson on CPR and first aid. Students will complete notes and practice CPR skills.



Wednesday - Students will complete CPR lesson. Students will practice CPR skills.


Thursday - Students will take assessment for CPR. Following assessment students will study for the final exam.


Friday - Students will take final exam for Health.

Week of 9/28/15 - 10/2/15



- Health Projects are due this week! Remember that project must be complete by the time that you walk into class on Tuesday 9/29/15!


- Email papers to coachrogers.health@Hotmail.com  before your class block on Tuesday!


Monday - Finish chapter 22 illegal drugs. Students will work in small groups and discuss the two questions from the PowerPoint. The two questions are Discuss: Do you think teens should be responsible for preventing drug use by their friends? Consider how far a friend should go in preventing drug use.  


Debate: Should pregnant women be prosecuted for child abuse or something harsher for using illegal drugs while pregnant. Students will appoint a spokesperson in each group to summarize the group’s conclusion. 


Groups will write out their response and we will have open discussion covering the two questions.


Tuesday - Students will present their health projects to the class. Students must have a 4 page paper emailed to the teacher before class on Tuesday and they must have their presentation ready that covers what was written in their papers.


Wednesday - Students and teacher will cover chapter 24 STDs and HIV/AIDS.  Students will start Active Learning: Students will be divided into small groups and each group assigned a STD that was discussed in the lesson. Groups will prepare a 1 minute public service announcement (PSA) to educate the public about the STD. Students are advised to write the PSA in their own words. They will present their PSAs to the class.


Thursday - Students will complete Active Learning assignment and turn it in to the teacher.


Friday - Final exam study guide. Final exam is next Friday, October 9th. Health will end on the 9th. Personal Fitness will start Oct. 12th. Students will meet the teacher in the Morgan Gym and will bring a change of clothes so students can work out.

Week of 9/14/15 - 9/18/15


Monday - Students will start chapter 22 active notes. Chapter 22 covers Illegal Drugs.



Tuesday - students will take chapter 21 unit assessment. Students will start work on health projects. Groups for their health projects will be developed. Students will be given a rubric and expectations for their projects. Projects will consist of a 4 page paper and a presentations that outlines their paper. Each group will turn in a paper and present their presentation to their peers. Once groups are developed students will create an outline for their papers, each group member will understand his/her responsibilities, and the group will decide on the kind of presentation that the group will like to develop. All of this should be complete before going to the computer lab for the next two days so students can maximize their time in the computer lab.

Week of 9/8/15 - 9/11/15 - Alcohol

Monday - No School


Tuesday - Students will take chapter 20 assessment. Students will complete vocabulary for chapter 21. Students will complete cooperative learning assignment.


Wednesday - Students and teacher will cover chapter 21 lesson 1 and 2 using PowerPoint and active notes. Students will draw out the effects of using alcohol. This will be part of their notebook check.


Thursday - Students and teacher will complete chapter 20 notes. Students will start project  based assignment.


Friday - Students will reteach the material from chapter 21 to a partner. Each pair of students will develop a 20 question assessment to help them study for the unit assessment.

Week of 8/31/15 - 9/4/15




Monday - Students will start chapter 20 active notes. Chapter 20 covers tobacco. Following notes students will write a letter to a friend or family member encouraging him/her to stop smoking. Students must include information from notes and researched information on tobacco.

Tuesday - Students will continue with chapter 20 lesson 2 active notes. After notes students will start a small in-class project that will include them making posters to educate their peers on the dangers of using tobacco.


Wednesday - Students will work on chapter 20 lesson 3 active notes. Students will complete their tobacco posters. If time permits students will create their own "Truth Commercials".


Thursday- Students will complete notes for chapter 20. Cooperative Learning: Students will start working on Bulletin Boards about Smoking. Students will be given cooperative learning cards. They will be paired with a partner who can help them complete the assignment. Students will be given a card and they will complete side A of the card. They will develop bulletin boards. 


Friday - Students will complete their Cooperative learning assignment: Students must be sure to include reasons a person should quit, images to encourage people to quit and to encourage a healthy environment, health risks of smoking. They should be creative, use color and list strategies to help someone quit smoking and resources that can help.

Week of 8/17/15 - 8/21/15

Monday - Students will complete the video "Sybil". Once the video is complete students will complete worksheet and writing assignment.

Tuesday - Students will take chapter 5 unit assessment. Students will complete vocabulary for chapter 16 and 17. The next unit will be Reproduction. Students will be given handouts of the reproduction system to label then students and the teacher will cover chapter16 lessons 1 and 2. As the teacher covers the lesson students will be able to check their labeling and make corrections.

Wednesday - The teacher and students will complete the notes of chapter 16 using PowerPoint and open discussion. Students will start their group assignment, which is to develop a learning pamphlet for middle school students using visuals and facts about the reproduction system.

Thursday - Students will complete chapter 17 lesson 1 notes using PowerPoint and open discussion. Students will complete their group assignment.

Friday - Students will review chapter 16 and lesson 1 of chapter 17 to get ready for their test. Students will watch "The Miracle of Life" video. Follow the video students will have their 2nd writing prompt.

Welcome to Health!

Week of August 10 - 14 Mental and Emotional Health

Monday - Students start vocabulary for chapter 5 Mental and Emotional Health

Tuesday - The teachers will cover chapter 5 lesson 1 and 2 using PowerPoint and open discussion. Students will complete a Cooperative Learning assignment. This will be group work.

Wednesday - Teacher and students will complete chapter 5 lesson 3 using PowerPoint and open discussion. Students will watch short videos describing different mental disabilities. Students will develop Anti-Suicide material. They will make a flyer, brochure, or poster that delivers a positive message and provide accurate information for students who may be thinking about suicide.

Thursday - The class will complete chapter 5 notes using PowerPoint and open discussion. Students will start their Eye on the Media assignment. Students will develop a brochure, billboard, a newspaper add, and a slogan encouraging people to see help for mental and emotional problems. The will be a group assignment that will take two days to complete.

Friday - Students will complete their Eye on the Media assignment. Students will watch short film covering Mental and Emotional Health. Students will have a writing assignment once the film is over.

Week of 4/20 - 4/24

Monday - Students will complete chapter 3 notes using PowerPoint and open discussion. Students will start working on student projects, which will be a class workout that they will develop with a partner.

Tuesday - Students will work on school wide fitness challenge using information from chapter 1 and 3. Students will participate in class workout the 2nd half of class. Workout will consist of a light jog around the track, jog two times around stadium and stairs, then jog around track again. This is one set. Students will complete 3 sets.

Wednesday - Students will complete school fitness challenge. They will participate in class workout that will be a short campus run. The run will be around the track, up the hill to the softball field, around baseball field, around practice field, ending around track.

Thursday - Students will complete their student workouts and turn it in. Students will participate in a workout developed by a peer as a practice run. Students will use this time and workout to make any needed changes.

Friday - Students will take chapter 3 test. They will complete a peer workout for the 2nd half of class.

Monday - Students will take their final SLO for health. Following the SLO students will continue their lesson on CPR and first aid. Students will complete notes and practice CPR skills.

Wednesday - Students will take final exam for Health. 

Thursday - Students will transition from Health to Personal Fitness. Students will be given rules and expectations. Students will be shown facilities that they will use for Personal Fitness. 

Friday - Students will take the Pre assessment for class. Students will start on their pre assessment measurements. Students will complete push-ups, sit-ups, sit-n-reach, and height and weight.
