Week of 12/15/14 - 12/19/14

Monday - Students will turn in their notebooks for a test grade. Students will run 1 mile for final exam.

Tuesday - Students will complete final push-up, sit-up, and pacer test. The teacher will take any additional notebooks.

Wednesday - Portfolio is due! Students have been working on portfolio the whole semester. They will use their rubrics to complete portfolio. Any student who missed the mile Monday will run their mile.

Thursday - Final exam - 1st and 2nd block

Friday - Final exam - 3rd and 4th block

Week of 12/8/14 - 12/12/14

Monday - Students will develop a test for their peers covering material that they have learned from chapter 6. Students will participate in a workout lead by their peers for the second half of class.

Tuesday - Students will test in pairs over chapter 6 material. Students will participate in a student lead workout for the second half of the block.

Wednesday - Students will be given a study guide for the final exam. Students will have half the class block to work on their study guides. Students will participate in student lead workouts for the second half of class.

Thursday - Students will complete their final exam study guide. Students will have half the class block to work on their study guides. Students will participate in student lead workouts for the second half of class.

Friday - Student will work on their portfolios that are due on Wednesday December 17th. Students will participate in student lead workouts for the second half of class.

Week of 11/17/14 - 11/21/14

Monday - Students will copy vocabulary for chapter 6. They will start their school challenge assignment. Students will participate in a student lead workout for the 2nd half of class. Students will also have a fitness test in push-ups and sit-ups.

Tuesday - Students will continue working their school challenge assignment. For the 2nd half of class students will participate in a student lead workout.

Wednesday - Students will take notes over chapter 6. Students will have guided notes. Students will have a fitness test, which will be the pacer test. If time permits they will participate in a student lead workout.

Thursday - Students will finish chapter 6 notes. They will participate in a student lead workout for the 2nd half of class.

Friday - Students will watch a video titled "The Fat Boy Chronicles" They will have a writing assignment following the video which will encourage them to look at promoting positive change in their lives.

Nov. 3, 2014 - Nov. 7, 2014

Monday - Students will complete chapter 3 notes using PowerPoint and open discussion. Students will start working on student projects, which will be a class workout that they will develop with a partner.

Tuesday - Students will work on school wide fitness challenge using information from chapter 1 and 3. Students will participate in class workout the 2nd half of class. Workout will consist of a light jog around the track, jog two times around stadium and stairs,  then jog around track again. This is one set. Students will complete 3 sets.

Wednesday - Students will complete school fitness challenge. They will participate in class workout that will be a short campus run. The run will be around the track, up the hill to the softball field, around baseball field, around practice field, ending around track.

Thursday - Students will complete their student workouts and turn it in. Students will participate in a workout developed by a peer as a practice run. Students will use this time and workout to make any needed changes.

Friday - Students will take chapter 3 test. They will complete a peer workout for the 2nd half of class.

Week of 10/27/14 - 10/31/14


Monday - Students will start chapter 3 using guided notes, PowerPoint and open discussion. Once students complete lesson 1, they will go complete a workout on the track. Students will run around the stadium and up the stairs. Students will then complete an ab workout, and end with stretching.

Tuesday - Students will work through chapter 3 lesson 2. Students will use information given to them to compare their pre-assessments measurements to standards. They will write how they will make progress to their fitness levels by changing their FITT. Students will participate in a workout for the 2nd half of class. The workout will be on the field. Students will do push-ups, sit-ups, lounges, squats, and sprints. They will participate in an ab workout then end with stretching.

Wednesday - Students will complete chapter 3 lesson 3 using PowerPoint, guided notes, and open discussion. Students will participate in a class workout for the 2nd half of class. The workout will consist of students running a mile. The mile will be untimed. It will prepare them for their final mile of the class.

Thursday - Students will finish chapter 3. Students will complete the diet part of their personal fitness program that they are developing. They will participate in a workout the 2nd half of class. The workout will consist of students running hills outside of the health classroom. Students will do an ab workout after the hill and end with stretching.

Friday - Students will start their active challenge for their school. The 2nd half of class they will participate in a cardio workout. The cardio workout will be students running around the track.

Week of 10/20/14 - 10/24/14


Monday - Students will complete vocabulary for chapter 1 to help them understand the information. Students will record their preassessment data and provide that to the teacher.
Tuesday - Students will start chapter 1 notes using open discussion and PowerPoint. Students will complete three sets of stadiums run as their workout. Students will end with an ab-workout.
Wednesday - Students will complete chapter 1 notes and their open discussion concerning how to be safe when exercising. Students will workout in stations: Jump ropes, leg throws, wall-sits, push-ups, and planks. students will end with an ab-workout.
Thursday - Students will start writing assignment using their notes from chapter one. Student will develop a workout plan based on information given in a scenario. This may be a two day writing assignment. Students will complete a workout on the field which will include suicide runs, sprints, lounges, squats, and push-ups (5 sets of 30 secs.). Students will end with an ab-workout.
Friday - Students' project. Students will use this day to develop their workout for their peers that should last for at least 40 minutes. As their workouts students will work through the workout that they will develop for their peers to make sure it meet all requirements for their project. Students already have their rubric for their projects.

Starting Personal Fitness 10/13/14



Week of 10/13/14

Monday - Pre-assessments: Students will discuss paperwork associated with Personal Fitness (Syllabus, rules, daily routines). Following Paperwork students will take their height, weight, and sit-n-reach measures as their pre-assessment measures.
Tuesday - Students will develop their daily warm-ups then students will run their 1st mile for their pre-assessment data

Wednesday - Students will take the written part of their common assessment. After assessment students will complete push-ups and sit-ups which will give them their pre-assessment data for Personal Fitness

Thursday - Students will complete their workout contract, vocabulary for chapter 1, and their first writing prompt

Friday - Students will start chapter one notes then complete the pacer running test

Week of 10/6/14-10/10/14

Monday - Students will read chapter 22 covering Illegal Drugs. Students will complete each lesson assessment following each lesson of chapter 22. Once student complete chapter 22 they will read chapter 24 covering STD/HIV. Students will have two assessments following their reading.

Tuesday - Students and teacher will cover chapter 27 CPR/First Aid using PowerPoint and open discussion.

Wednesday - Students will practice their CPR skills and finish covering the chapter.

Thursday - Students and teacher will review for the final exam. The final exam study guide will be covered and we will review STDs/HIV and CPR. Students will have time to practice their CPR skills again before the final exam.

Friday - Students will take their final exam in health.

Week of 9/29/14 - 10/3/14


Monday - Students will complete project presentations. Students will have their test over tobacco. Students will complete vocabulary for chapter 21 which is alcohol.

Tuesday - Students and teacher will cover lessons 1 and 2 of chapter 21 using guided notes and open discussion. Students will start an in-class assignment called "A drink from home'

Wednesday - students will complete chapter 21 notes over alcohol. Students will also complete their "A drink from home assignment."

Thursday - Students will copy vocabulary for illegal drugs and start their notes covering chapter 22 Illegal Drugs.

Friday - Students and teacher will continue their notes and look to complete the chapter over illegal drugs.

Week of 9/22/14 - 9/26/14

Monday - Students will create their own "Truth" commercials concerning tobacco. Students will be shown examples of existing commercials and their task will be to create their own. They will perform their commercials in front of their peers.

Tuesday - Students and teacher will review chapter 20 which covered tobacco. Students will have a few minutes to talk with their groups concerning health projects that are due Thursday. The class will start chapter 21 covering alcohol. They will take active notes and participate in open discussion.

Wednesday - Students will continue their active notes over alcohol. Students and teacher will participate in open discussion over the chapter. If students need time with their group members they will have some class time to finish project work. Projects are due Thursday.

Thursday - Students will present their health projects to their peers.

Friday - Students will complete their health project presentations. If time permits the class will also complete chapter 21 notes over alcohol.

Week of 9/8/14 - 9/12/14

Monday - Students will start work on health projects. Groups for their health projects will be developed. Students will be given a rubric and expectations for their projects. Projects will consist of a 4 page paper and a presentations that outlines their paper. Each group will turn in a paper and present their presentation to their peers. Once groups are developed students will create an outline for their papers, each group member will understand his/her responsibilities, and the group will decide on the kind of presentation that the group will like to develop. All of this should be complete before going to the computer lab for the next two days so students can maximize their time in the computer lab. 

Tuesday - Students will work on health project for the entire class block in the computer lab. Students will work on their 4 page paper and the presentation that goes along with their paper. Students will have rubrics to guide them through the project.

Thursday - Chapter 19 notes through PowerPoint. Role Playing: Students will make up skits that show examples of drug use, drug misuse, and drug abuse. The class should judge which category is being presented by the skit. Caution them to make a distinction between misuse and abuse so that both categories are not included in the same skit.

Week of 8/25/14 - 8/29/14

Monday - Students may need the first 20 minutes of class to complete "Sybil" The next unit will be Reproduction. Students will be given handouts of the reproduction system to label then students and the teacher will cover chapter16 lessons 1 and 2. As the teacher covers the lesson students will be able to check their labeling and make corrections.

Tuesday - The teacher and students will complete the notes of chapter 16 using PowerPoint and open discussion. Students will start their group assignment, which is to develop a learning pamphlet for middle school students using visuals and facts about the reproduction system.

Wednesday - Students will complete chapter 17 lesson 1 notes using PowerPoint and open discussion. Students will complete their group assignment.

Thursday - Students will review chapter 16 and lesson 1 of chapter 17 to get ready for their test. Students will watch "The Miracle of Life" video. Follow the video students will have their 2nd writing prompt.

Friday - Students will discuss their group project. Students will be put in teams and they will choose a topic as a group. The teacher will show several videos that students made in the past and several posters, books. and pamphlets that previous students developed for their projects to give student  ideas on what they can do for their project. Students will then develop an outline for their project.

Week of 8/18/14 - 8/22/14

Monday - Students will complete their notes that covers chapter 5 mental and emotional health. Students will start their first writing prompt labeled cooperative learning. They have learning cards with two sides and they must answer each question in paragraph form.

Tuesday - Students will complete their writing prompt

Wednesday - Students will have test over chapter 5. After test students will copy vocabulary for chapter 16 and 17 covering the Reproduction System. The teacher will conduct their first notebook check while students complete vocabulary.

Thursday - Students will have the first 30 minutes of class to complete vocabulary and writing prompt. After 30 minutes students will start the video "Sybil"

Friday - Students will complete "Sybil" and will work on their handout that goes with the video. Sybil is a video about a girl dealing with multiple personalities.

Week of 8/11/14 - 8/15/14

Mental and Emotional Health

Monday - Students will take their common assessment and start vocabulary for chapter 5 Mental and Emotional Health

Tuesday - The teachers will cover chapter 5 lesson 1 and 2 using PowerPoint and open discussion. Students will complete a Cooperative Learning assignment. This will be group work.

Wednesday - Teacher and students will complete chapter 5 lesson 3 using PowerPoint and open discussion. Students will watch short videos describing different mental disabilities. Students will develop Anti-Suicide material. They will make a flyer, brochure, or poster that delivers a positive message and provide accurate information for students who may be thinking about suicide.

Thursday - The class will complete chapter 5 notes using PowerPoint and open discussion. Students will start their Eye on the Media assignment. Students will develop a brochure, billboard, a newspaper add, and a slogan encouraging people to see help for mental and emotional problems. The will be a group assignment that will take two days to complete.

Friday - Student will complete their Eye on the Media assignment.

Monday - Common Assessment for Team Sports

Tuesday - Students will complete the Pacer running test and start a discussion on volleyball which will be their first unit

Wednesday - Students will take notes on volleyball and start volleyball drills

Thursday - Students will continue with volleyball drills

Friday - Students will run their 1 mile for their pre-assessment data

Health Week of 1/7/14 - 1/14/14

- Day 1: Classroom rules, rubrics, get to know my new students 
- Day 2: Syllabus then class game to understand my students. Students will see how well they are able to give and follow directions through drawings. Discussion and debate: Teens, Sex, and the Law.

- Day 3: Choosing the best: Avoiding pregnancy. Students will work in groups and work through pages 19-24 of their choosing the best books.

Day 4: People bingo then students will complete their choosing the best activity.
